All Star Superman

All Star Superman, launched in November 2005, is an ongoing comic book series featuring Superman, written by Grant Morrison, drawn by Frank Quitely, digitally inked by Jamie Grant and published by DC Comics. DC claims that this series will "strip down the Man of Steel to his timeless, essential elements."
This is the second series to be launched in 2005 under DC's All Star imprint, the first being All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder. These series are attempts by DC to allow major comics creators a chance to tell stories showcasing these characters, without being restricted by DC Universe continuity. Both Morrison and Quitely have stated they will be leaving after issue 12.

The Man of Steel was a six-issue comic book limited series released in 1986 by DC Comics, several months after the 12-issue limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths completed. The Man of Steel was written and penciled by John Byrne and inked by Dick Giordano. The mini-series wasdesigned to revamp the Superman mythos. Using the history-altering effects of Crisis as an explanation, it was decided by DC to give Superman an updated look and feel by completely rewriting his history, as an attempt to attract more readers. Thus, for modern comics, Man of Steel is the dividing point between the previous canon and the current one; most comic fans refer to the two different versions as pre-Crisis and post-Crisis, per Crisis on Infinite Earths being the major dividing line across DC's universe as a whole.

Adventures of Superman, sometimes The Adventures of Superman, was a comic book series featuring Superman, produced monthly by DC Comics, and numbered from issue #424 (print date January 1987) to issue #649 (print date April 2006), for a total of 225 issues (plus nine annuals), with an issue #0 (October 1994) published between issues #516 and #517 during the Zero Hour crossover event and issue #1,000,000 (November 1998) during the DC One Million crossover event. It was the renamed continuation of the original Superman title which began in 1939, and with issue #650 returns to the original title. A second Superman series ran from 1987 to 2006, launched with issue #1 after John Byrne revamped the character, and ended along with Adventures of Superman in April 2006 with issue #226.

The first issue of Adventures of Superman (#424) followed a three-month hiatus of both Superman and Action Comics, while the Man of Steel limited series was being published. The initial team working on the renamed title was writer Marv Wolfman and artist Jerry Ordway.

The plots of the Superman books were often linked during the first few years of the series run. To coordinate the storyline and sequence of event, from January 1991 to January 2002, "triangle numbers" (or "shield numbers") appeared on the cover of each Superman comic book. During these years the Superman story lines ran like a soap opera with the story also continuing through the titles Superman, Action Comics and later in two further series, Superman: The Man of Steel and Superman: The Man of Tomorrow. After February 2002, the integration between the Superman titles became less frequent, and the remaining issues of Adventures of Superman commonly carried self-contained stories. The final issue (# 649), however, was part of a three-part crossover with Superman and Action Comics, an homage to the Golden Age Superman in the wake of events in the limited series Infinite Crisis.

For its last few years, Adventures of Superman was written by Greg Rucka. Notable plots included the villain Ruin, the attempted assassination of Lois Lane and a number of well-regarded Mxyzptlk appearances.
